Mistakes in the text Contemporary Linear Algebra, by Anton and Busby

Page 171: In Question 16, the matrices A and B are assumed to be invertible.

Page 179: The second sentence of the Remark near the bottom of the page should be "For a 1 by 1 matrix [a11], the minor and cofactor of a11 are both 1."

Page 281: Theorem 6.2.1 is also true for a linear transformation T : Rn → Rm, not only for a linear operator (the case m = n). The proof of Theorem 6.2.4, (b) implies (c), on page 283 uses this more general form of Theorem 6.2.1.

Page 301: Theorem 6.3.13 should end with "bRm."

Page A9: Answer to Exercise Set 1.1 #9a should be B(2,3)

Page A9: Answer to Exercise Set 1.1 #21. The diagrams are using the point A(-1,0) rather than (0,0) as stated in the question.

Page A9: Answer to Exercise Set 1.1 #25b should have a 1 as the (5,2) entry.

Page A10:  Answer to Exercise Set 1.2 #17 should be x = (-4/15, 14/15, -6/15, 2/15).

Page A12: Answer to Exercise Set 2.2 #27 should be "no solution".

Page A13: Answer to Exercise Set 3.2 #7a the (2,2)-entry should be -43, not -47.

Page A16: Answer to Exercise Set 4.2 #39a should be -1080 not -3.

Page A16: Answer to Exercise Set 4.2 #39b should be 1 not -24.

Page A14: Answer to Exercise Set 3.5 #15b the R4 should be R3.

Page A18: Answer to Exercise Set 6.2 #7d the 2 should be a 3.

Page A19: Answer to Exercise Set 6.4 #5b the 3 should be a 2.
